The leaves falling, preseason football games, colder days and shorter days all point to the new season of fall. Many need to begin a new season of life. Transitioning from one season to another is the ability to move forward. When we get stuck in a season, we may need counseling, coaching or an encounter with God. To stay stuck in a season of life
is like wearing shorts, t-shirts and sandals in the middle of a snow storm. Coldness of heart is the evidence that one is stuck in a season of life.

North Meets South

Yesterday, north met south once again in a park in Jamaica. This week realized a 28 year old dream of returning to Bath, Jamaica where Marie and I went on our first mission's trip. The church had dwindled down to an handful of people over the last few years. The leaking roof of the church is so bad that the ceiling has fallen down in several places. Our team of 20 people did so an excellent job loving and ministering to the kids, teens and adults of this town on our opening day of ministry yesterday. Last night, the church was full inside with many people standing outside the doors and windows of the church. The response to altar call in the public school outreach and church service last night was overwelming with 75+ salvations. Today, we will go to another school, more witnessing in the town and then another church service.

The Right To Be Heard

In this media driven - technologically connected world we live in, it seems everyone wants the right to be heard. As believers, we don't have the right to say whatever we want to say. When I would say a bad word when I was a young boy, my Mom would sometimes put a bar of soap in my mouth. May the Holy Spirit of God put a bar of soap in believer's mouths who think they have a right to be heard... How are your goals going for 2010? Are you motivated to accomplish your goals or do you need to rethink them? The only response is to continue to trust God and continue to give tithes into His storehouse. Malachi 3:10 "Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this," Says the LORD of hosts, "If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it." During our morning children's service, a 4 year old boy that never walked before due to paralysis in his limbs walked across a soccer field for the first time. A bind man began to see and a deaf woman heard. Right now one of our team members is laying under the power of God on the floor in our hotel courtroom having just received the baptism in the Holy Spirit. To date 465 people have been birthed into the Kingdom of God. Keep praying as you are a part of what God is doing here in El Salvador. Gracious!

The River Flows in El Salvador

We arrived in El Salvador on Friday tired but excited to see the river flow with the life and healing of Jesus. Yesterday, we held two food distributions as evanglistic events. We saw 187 people come to Jesus yesterday and 40 today in a small building, with a tropical rainstorm on the outside, with another service coming up in a couple of hours. Our team testified last night back at the hotel how this trip has already impacted their lives. Tears streamed down faces as we shared the testimonies of lives changed and healed by Jesus. Continue to pray that the river will flow in El Salvador!

Wedding Season

This has been a busy wedding season for us at the church. I am always excited for couples as they begin their lives together. On that wedding day, hope, excitement and endless possibilities for the future are before the new couple. When we began to discuss possible days for the funeral service, I said Monday or Tuesday would be fine for the funeral totally forgetting that Monday was my 48th birthday. The point I am making is I forgot my birthday not that I am doing a funeral on my birthday. I guess the older you get, the less enamored one is about turning another year older. I remember when I was a kid, birthdays were long anticipated days on the calendar year. Batman or Superman cakes, GI Joes or bikes for presents and parties with friends over were highlights of the day. Well, today after the funeral service, I will be taking my family to Shady Maple for the all-you-can eat steak night. The meal is free if you go on your birthday which is important since I will be paying the bill at the end of the night. Birthdays sure have changed over the years.

Super Indigestion

Here I am blogging in the wee hours of the night. The reason for this late night blog is simple - Super Indigestion. Last night at our Super Bowl Celebration, I served as one of the judges for the Aluminum Chef competition. After sampling 15 different pizza creations, my stomach has thrown a referee's flag citing a personal foul penalty. This past year has given me spiritual indigestion at times. Twice after preaching from God's Word, I have left church with the grief of the Spirit in my heart. Each time, God had people in the building who needed the message and both times people hardened their hearts and left without transformation. I wonder if God has Super Indigestion when people grieve His Spirit by continuing in their personal fouls.

Snow and Ice

Early this morning, I looked outside and saw a beautiful winter wonderland. The first sight of the snow looked amazing but as I began to shovel out my driveway it didn't have the same appeal to me. This is a good example of how the church is. From first sight, the church may look perfect and beautiful but the more you dig and shovel into it, the more you may be tempted to not feel the same about it. I pressed in and finished shoveling the driveway because of my love for my family and my desire for them to be able to walk and drive on this piece of blacktop. I would like to encourage you to love the body of Christ enough even if it is not perfect and always beautiful.

Mixed-Up Days & Nights

Today, I realized that like a newborn baby, my days and nights are mixed-up. Israel is seven hours ahead of us and so my body is still on Israeli time. I went to bed real early last night and now I am wide awake in the wee hours of the morning while my family sleeps. The culture in which we live also has its days and nights mixed-up. Isaiah the prophet described this phenomenon in this verse: Isaiah 5:20 - "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" Paul the Apostle stated this idea this way: 1 Thessalonians 5:5 - "for ye are all sons of light, and sons of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness."

We Are Home!

Around 11:30 pm last night our team returned home to River of God after traveling a long 26 hours or so. Today, we spent time in prayer and praise with a group of believers who are watchman on the walls of Israel. Following our season of intercession for Israel, we had a renewal of wedding vows with Chris and Heidie. Then we were off to the market to barter for souvenirs. Some of group were good barterers while others need a bit more practice. A few moments ago after dinner, everyone took time to recap the trip. Amazing testimonies flowed around the tables of lives impacted by this visit to the land of Israel. We came to Israel as friends from church but we are leaving as family! I am looking forward to our next trip!

The Tabernacle of David

Today was amazing as we had an opportunity to spend a few hours on the temple mount. Although no Bibles could be taken on the mount, which is under Muslim control, we had the blessing of having two walking Bibles guide us through this powerful experience. A lifetime of Biblical studies came together for me as our guides shared the Word and as we prayed on Mount Moriah. Following our temple experience, we spent a few hours with a few believers connected with the Tabernacle of David movement. As we worshiped, prayed and experienced the prophetic voice of God, some final direction came to me for River of God Church and the future of our ministry. It was a glorious moment with Christ in the city of David. The afternoon ended with a trip to Golgotha and the Garden Tomb. During communion, after visiting the empty tomb, we were all full of joy and celebration in our hearts.

Surveying the Walls

Today, I felt a bit like Nehemiah as we surveyed the walls of Jerusalem and touched parts of the wall that the Romans had thrown down in 70 A.D. The mud was cold with a few stones mixed in but felt refreshing especially after floating in the Dead Sea. We also had the opportunity to see Engedi, an oasis on the west shore of the Dead Sea. It is amazing how valuable and life-giving a fresh water river can be. Without the river, there would be no Engedi. So it is with us - no river - no life! We also took time to visit Masada, Herod's ancient fortress overlooking the Dead Sea. The trip was inspiring as the song "Jerusalem" sung by John Starnes played on the bus. I was overcome by emotion as I realized we were going to the city where our Lord was crucified. Others on our bus making their first pilgrimage to David's City were also touched powerfully as the city and temple mount came into full view. The view from the Mount of Olives was breathtaking and then we walked down to Gethsemane. After this pilgrimage, we traveled to the Upper Room, where God's River was powerfully poured out. We had a "true" upper room experience.

The River Flows on the Sea of Galilee

Today, we experienced the river of God flowing on a boat in the middle of the Sea of Galilee. We boarded a boat similar to what Jesus would have sailed on during his lifetime. After reading the story of Jesus walking on the water during the storm, I declared that the same Jesus who walked on the water was with us today on the boat. After praying for those needing a healing touch or a demonstration of the gospel on the boat, we began to sing and worship and the river flowed onto the boat. The tears flowed down many of our eyes as we considered that Jesus' ministry of healing and deliverance happened all around the hills we were looking at from the boat. Later, we visited the place where Peter stated that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the living God. As we examined the remains of several broken down temples to false gods, the words of Christ that He would build His church upon the rock of Peter's confession and the gates of Hell would not prevail against the church rang true in our hearts and minds. No kingdom of Hell has been able to stop the kingdom of God. The day ended with trips to where Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount, where He multiplied the bread and fish, and to the ruins of Capernaum where He set-up His ministry headquarters. Today is the Jewish sabbath so an appropriate closing to this blog would be Sabbat Shalom!

Welcome to Israel

Yesterday, we all arrived safely in Israel. After a lengthy plane ride, we arrived at Kiev in the Ukraine for a short layover. I was amazed at the oppression and overall lack of joy by the airport workers, soldiers and natives to the area. Communism is a demoralizing philosophy that enslaves it's citizens. Freedom brings joy! Upon arriving in Israel, we stopped at Jaffa or the Biblical place Joppa. There Peter received the vision that Gentiles could become part of the body of Christ, (Acts 10) and then he went to Caesarea and there they received the baptism in the Holy Spirit and the gospel went to the Gentiles. Today, we visited Caesarea which was a heathen Gentile place where the palace of Herod was located with all the extravagance of the Roman culture. Peter obeyed God at Joppa and went to the Gentiles while Jonah disobeyed God at Joppa, (Jonah 1:1-3) and ran from preaching to the Gentiles. Standing in the hippodrome in Caesarea where Christian martyrs lost their lives to entertain the ungodly was very moving to me. The most incredible moment for many of us was to stand on top of Mount Carmel where Elijah called down fire and defeated the false prophets of Jezebel and then look out from this same mountain and see the valley of Jezreel where the Battle of Armageddon will take place. Then we went on to Nazareth and visited the hometown of Jesus that overlooks the place where this end time battle will take place. Throughout his childhood and life, Jesus could see where the pinnacle of his life and ministry will take place when He returns a second time and defeats the armies of Antichrist in the valley of Jezreel or Armageddon. For the next few days, we will be staying in a hotel in Tiberias near the Sea of Galilee.

Pumpkin Fest 2008

What an awesome day today enjoying our annual community Pumpkin Fest! The food, (pumpkin funnel cakes - my favorite), the car show, all the booths and of course our "Down On The Farm" church booth makes the festival a great place to spend a warm autumn day. It seems like every year we have the most visited booth which is kudos to the incredible team of volunteers who plan it, staff it, bake for it and just love on the people of our community. One of the highlights of the day was watching our own 80 year "Deacon Emeritus" Jim Forbes ride the mechanical bull we rented for the event. I hope I have his passion for life when I hit 80 years old. Thanks River of God for serving and offering everything free under the tent by your gracious giving.

More than a Sun Tan!

Babies know how to rest and relax. Every Saturday, no matter what the weather conditions, this young girl helped our bread ministry that delivers 400-500 loaves of bread to the needy in this housing project. This bread ministry is headed-up by a man named John who took our church vision of taking the life and healing of Jesus into the world into a project that most people avoid. As I listened to John speak at Montaiya's funeral, tears began to stream from my eyes as I recognized that one's man's obedience can make a difference in the life of a child and in the lives of others. Every Sunday, Montaiya would come to our church campus at Capital City in our church van with about 30 of her friends from the project. When Pastor Bob, another man making a difference through his obedience to Christ, gave the salvation invitation at Montaiya's funeral, 40 hands went up for salvation. Even though she was only 9 years old, Montaiya's obedience to Christ made a difference in life and in death. Are you obeying Christ and making a difference?

Loving the Least

A few weeks ago, my life changed as I held death in my arms. On a recent missions trip to Haiti, I had the opportunity to choose to love a starving, diseased, dirty, half-naked and dying child by taking him into my arms, (this is not the little boy in the picture). The little boy stretched his arms towards me and I had a choice to make either to love him or pass by him. I wonder if the children who the disciples tried to keep from Jesus were dirty, starving, diseased or dying. Jesus took the children into his arms. When you love the least you are loving Jesus. Who is the most spiritual or mature in the kingdom? According to Jim Cymbala, pastor of the Brooklyn Tabernacle, it is the one who loves the most. Over the last few weeks, I have watched a spontaneous outpouring of love being demonstrated by our congregation as they have given sacrificially to feed children in Haiti. Sounds like a spiritual church doesn't it?

More than a One Day Holiday

I love Easter Sunday. It is an incredible day to present the gospel. On Sunday morning, at both of our church campuses, many were added to the kingdom of God. I enjoyed becoming Aaron the High Priest as we reenacted the tabernacle. Easter Sunday lunch was delicious although the High Priest probably shouldn't have eaten ham. Last night was an awesome conclusion to the day with the presentation of our original Easter Drama entitled: "One Man, One Cause and One Stone." Everyone did a great job and the message certainly was clear and powerful as the life of David, Jesus and our own street evangelists came to life. There is no time to have an Easter hangover as we have the opportunity to present the drama Tuesday, March 25th and Wednesday, March 26th. Then it is one more Sunday with the Tabernacle teaching and and short missions trip to Haiti next week. The power of the resurrection is more than a one day holiday - it is a way of life. It is a great day to be alive!

It's a Girl!

Twenty-three years ago on a Sunday morning, I picked-up my wife Marie and our newborn daughter Ashley from the hospital. The first place we went after we left the hospital was to attend church. How appropriate that all these years later, Ashley would go into labor with our first grandchild while she was worshiping and seeking God at the altar of our church. Today, at 9:16 am, February 18th, Kiley Marye Chest came into the world weighing 6lbs. 6oz. and measuring 18 inches long. Amazingly, she weighed the same as her Mom at birth. It was love at first sight...How exciting to be a grandfather. As I sat through the service, my thoughts went back to 20 plus years ago when I moved across the street from the pastor's wife's unsaved son. I thought of all the years she and her husband and others had spent praying for her unsaved son and daughter-in-law and their family. God found a young couple with two young children and sent them to her unsaved family in answer to her prayers. The second Sunday we had services in our new church plant the unsaved daughter-in-law was born again. The son's journey took a lot longer to return home to the Father's house but in time prayer was answered and he was born again also. In the family of God, we are more connected in our destinies than we may realize. Your destiny may be shaped by another person's prayers.

Cutting Edge Christianity

Many leaders in the church world are seeking diligently to be culturally relevant and cutting edge to reach the American audience. I have a suggestion that can help leaders and followers in the body of Christ be Biblically relevant and cutting edge to reach any audience. The simple suggestion is extended times of prayer and fasting. When a believer denies himself food to seek after God in new enthusiasm and hunger, God reveals spiritual insight and anointing to that individual that is cutting edge for any culture. Today begins 21 days of prayer and fasting for our local church. This year 3 other churches in our community are joining us for 21 days of prayer and fasting. Don't miss the opportunity to pray and fast corporately and individually this new year of 2008 and experience "Cutting Edge Christianity." Check out this website on thousands who have joined together to fast and pray this month for a spiritual awakening for this nation: www.awakeningamerica.us

Don't Miss the Boat!

As we were ready to leave Liberty Island after visiting the Statue of Liberty, I realized one of our group was missing. The time is autumn with leaves beginning to fall. When we bought our home over five years ago, the former owners mentioned to us that the leaves from the neighbors' trees often ended up in the yard. This couple were true prophets as every year since moving in to our home, I have spent hours cleaning-up other people's leaves. Sometimes, I get so tired of this annual event I want to move. Last year something happened that helped me in my leaf collection exhaustion - help from my family! Instead of dreading the job, I actually enjoyed it as talked and worked together. Helping people with the leaves of their fallen condition can also be exhausting but working together with other leaf removers can sure help with the process especially with those who seem to put more leaves in your yard than others. So, don't move yet instead find a team of leaf collectors.

A Summer Not To Be Forgotten

As I finally get back to bloggin again, all I can say is "what a summer!" Since my last blog, I have experienced the following momentous events: a time of personal reflection and evaluation; the best church outreach I have ever been involved with; incredible prophetic services with Andre van Zyl; the wedding of my daughter Ashley; a relaxing vacation at the beach and a week of General Council meetings in Indianapolis. Next week, I will drop off my youngest daughter Amber at college to begin her freshman year. Through my personal reflection season, I have determined that my work is not finished yet in the Harrisburg Region! After almost 11 years, I feel like we are just getting started. The Harrisburg Convoy of Hope Outreach that reached 4,500 people with the gospel was awesome with 279 people getting saved. Again this year, Andre blessed our church with words from the Lord that were right on. Marrying my daughter on the beach to her new husband Joe was a wonderful, unstressful experience. Reading inspirational books on the beach was very relaxing and faith building. General Council was a great time to reconnect with lifelong friends, attend seminars and powerful church services and experience the blessing of belonging to a good fellowship called the Assemblies of God. All I can say is "what a summer!" This summer will not be forgotten!

A New Season

Last night my wife and I entered a new season of life. Our youngest daughter Amber moved a tassle on her cap that marked her completion of high school and her beginning of adult life. Eleven years ago God spoke to my heart and told me that I would become the pastor of this church in Enola and I would raise my daughters here and this body of believers would love my family and I. Thank God this promise became a reality. Raising children and especially teenagers is not easy especially in a pastor's home with all the expectations and visibility the position affords. Over the years, only a few forgot that pastor's kids are human beings like everyone else with all the ups and downs of belonging to the human race. The majority have shared the most important gift of all with my family - love - just as God promised. Now our ears are open to whatever God has for us in this new season of life. New seasons are exciting because the opportunities are full of potential and excitement. What season of life are you in? Seize whatever opportunities are before you and never forget that loving God and others is the best way to transition from season to season!

Myrtle's Last Ride

I took Myrtle for a ride the other day. Now before you begin to wonder what I was doing with a strange woman - please let me explain. Four years ago, my daughter Ashley needed a car so we found her a 1990 Dodge Dynasty. She was teased about this car looking like a pappy car but in time she and Myrtle, as the Dodge became affectionately known, became good friends. Over the years, Myrtle needed maintenance, understanding and tender loving care but overall was a good friend to my daughter. Often our relationships require the same kind of maintenance, understanding and tender loving care. Well, last week the rebuilt transmission finally gave out so I limped Myrtle to the salvage yard with a disappointed daughter following behind. Before you give-up on your "Myrtle" and junk the relationship, ask God if you can rebuild the broken parts and continue to ride together.

The Fear of Death

Up until this past week, I didn't think I feared death. After all, as a believer I have confidence in life after death with Jesus Christ. However, on Thursday a special Easter gift came from an unlikely source, our local funeral home. The gift was my very own casket. At 46 years old, I am not expecting to use it very soon but my staff had this idea to have me enter into church on Easter Sunday in a casket to illustrate my sermon entitled: "The Legacy of the Tomb." As I laid in the casket for the first time on Thursday afternoon, I must confess that closing the lid rattled me a bit. As I waited on the church platform in the casket on Easter Sunday for the choir to finish the song "Up from the Grave He Arose," my legs began to shake, I began to sweat and I couldn't wait for Jesus to let me out when the song finished and he came out of the empty tomb. Thank God because of the resurrection of Christ every dead believer's body will be raised by Jesus one day. Thank God I have conquered the fear of a laying in a closed casket and more importantly the fear of death.

A Special Valentine's Day

Today, I had the opportunity to attend the funeral service of Pastor Rodger Berkey. Even though the ice covered roads made traveling treacherous, I just had to go and honor a good friend who packed a lot of love for God and for others in his 52 years of life. His legacy was evident in the lives of his family, congregation and friends. The most moving moment was watching his wife Renee worship Jesus with all her heart as her husband lay in the front of the church on Valentine's Day of all days. Pastor Steve Tourville clearly communicated that Jesus will never leave us even though loved ones may. Seeing a newly, widowed woman of God love the Lord made this Valentine's day very special.

Instant Results

This past Friday, we hit our church daycare registration goal. When we opened 2 1/2 months ago, we were hoping to open with the number that we just reached. Too often, we look for instant results without having to expend much effort. This realized goal was a direct result of an entire church praying, many interviews with parents by our daycare director and excellent childcare from our daycare employees every day for the last 2 1/2 months. Instant results would be great but when the results come because of God's help and our perserverance we tend to give more glory to God. Whether the results are instant or incremental may we always give God the glory. As the songwriter penned: "To God be the glory great things He has done."

The Power of Unbelief

Unbelief is a powerful tool in the hands of the enemy. Last night, our church had one of the most powerful moves of God we have experienced to date. Interestingly, the attendance was about 25% lower due to inclement weather. It seemed as though only those who really wanted to be in church were there. Which brings me to the thought, just how many attend church with low expectations, doubt, other agendas and selfish motives. As a student of revival and renewal, I have observed faith and hunger in the lives of those who embrace a new move of God in the Church. May we let go of unbelief, sin and selfishness and welcome what God wants to do in His Church.

Fresh Bread

Last night, during a powerful move of God at our church, I went to the communion table to seek the Lord. For me this act was a bit nostalgic. Some years ago, I was seeking direction for the church I was pastoring in western PA that was considering a new building project and God spoke to my heart and said "go ahead son." That was all I needed to begin building that new church facility. So, there I was last night with both hands on the table seeking direction for our church and within moments hands were laid on my shoulders and back as intercessors took opportunity to pray for me. Suddenly, I heard more than just the prayers of God's people but the distinct voice of prophecy stating to me that the vision was being renewed and would come to pass. I do not believe I ever met this person who shared this prophecy with me but God spoke clearly through him. As I opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was the river man logo that is etched on the pulpit. The river vision is alive and well. This prophetic word was "fresh bread" to this pastor and to our church. Mathew 4:4 - "But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'"

"LIGHTEN-UP"

A few weeks ago, I spent a few hours putting up Christmas lights inside and outside of our home. Everywhere you go you can see thousands of lights declaring it is the Christmas season. Although many don't realize it, every Christmas light points to the one true light - Jesus Christ - "In Him was life, and the life was the light of men," (John 1:4). This thought is helpful when attempting the difficult task of stringing lights and troubleshooting burned out bulbs, etc. Don't allow the busyness of this season to burn you out but rather lighten-up for Jesus is the Light of the World!

"A Pentecostal Pioneer"

A few days ago, I had the one of the great honors of my ministry as I participated in the funeral service of our founding pastor's wife Ida Watts. I was not prepared for the awesome sight of 25 pound salmon swimming upstream in a small stream. The back and tail of the fish actually stuck out of the water. Salmon are on a pursuit to lay their eggs in the very waters where they were born. This instinctive pilgimage is called the salmon run. The persistance and raw fight of a salmon making its way upstream is a great picture of the Christian life. Keeping the goal of finishing in sight will require persitance, fight and determination. May the Lord help us to make a Christian run until we reach our destination. Jesus answered, I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit," (John 3:5).

The Telling Scale

One of my least favorite things to do is to step on the scale. It tells too much info with one simple move from the floor to the scale. One read of the scale delares I ate too much at dinner, exercised too little or snacked one time too many. How I hate the telling scale! Many approach church this way. They feel uncomfortable if God reveals their sin through a sermon, teaching or a spiritual gift. Let's face it - stepping on a scale is not about being comfortable but about being healthy. May the Lord place His body of believers on His scales of justice and holiness. Isa 26:7 - "The way of the just is uprightness; O Most Upright, You weigh the path of the just."

"Offended by Truth"

I saw a movie clip a few years ago, (on TV - the language was sanitized from the original movie), starring Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise. In the movie, there is a courtroom scene where Jack yelling at Tom Cruise states that he can't handle the truth. I feel like this scene depicts so many in the church today. Many cannot handle the truth as denial raises its head like the water out of Pilate's basin. Get your hands out of the water basin of denial and receive the truth so you can be set free. Look past the wrapper the truth comes in and allow your heart to be changed rather than offended.

A Culture of Peace

The title itself sounds great - "a culture of peace" but often the concept has been missing in the body of Christ. For too long, the Church has had its share of splits, conflicts, disagreements and fights. For the last several years, I have been involved in a ministry that promotes tearing down the walls of conflict within the body of Christ and building bridges of peace. Today, I participated in another training session that encouraged leaders to develop this "culture of peace" within their local areas of ministry. Although, my heart is full from one more opportunity developing "a culture of peace," I still feel overwhelmed by the daunting task of spreading this message in places that are not yet receptive. It seems that pride keeps leaders from acknowledging their need of outside help. May the Lord humble us so we realize that others' gifts can be an asset to our local areas of ministry. May all in the Church take responsibility for their part in conflict. May the Holy Spirit birth a "culture of peace" within the body of Christ!

Summer's Almost Over

It is hard to believe that summer is almost over. I have been bidding on a set of rare, out of print commentaries on the Old Testament. This was my first e-bay experience and it was exciting until the disappointment of losing the bid to a mom who is paying her son's way through college with an on-line bookstore. It is amazing what you can learn about people on-line. Disappointment is a part of the human experience and must be overcome with the realization that God is in control of our lives. Jesus doesn't need the internet to know how we are feeling and what we are facing. God has us on-line all the time. For sometime we have been trying to locate a source of water that was soaking a ceiling tile in our basement. It was discovered that a rotted rubber boot around a vent pipe on our roof was the culprit. The fix was relatively easy and completely repairable. Also, a virus unexpectantly infected our home computer and required several hours of reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling all the programs. Again it was a fairly easy fix. Some things in life are just as unexpectant but not as easy to fix. Things like health problems, relationship problems or financial problems may be difficult to fix easily. Always remember that God has been dealing with people problems for thousands of years and is totally qualified to help you. Call on Him and He will give you strength to deal with the "Unexpected!"

The Fellowship of the Saints

For a moment visualize 20 sunburned, exhausted, sweaty and concrete covered people trying to say good-bye after several days of working together in the hot Mexico sun. Even though we just met on Monday, it seemed like we had known each other for years. What can make total strangers bond together even though there is a cultural and language barrier? The simple answer is the "fellowship of the saints." God has placed the same Holy Spirit in all of us when we receive Him as Saviour. As His Spirit indwells us, the same fruit of the Holy Spirit develops in all the saints. After finishing our church construction project today, the greatest testimony to this idea of the "fellowship of the saints" was when the Mexican believers called us brothers and sisters instead of just friends. Get together this summer with some brothers and sisters and enjoy the "fellowship of the saints."

Passion for Ministry

I ate dinner tonight with a man with a passion for ministry. As our missions team of 13 sat with missionary Art Stoneking eating hot peppers and tacos, the miraculous stories began to flow from his lips. I looked around the tables and watched blessed Americans weep as this man of God inspired us with his total commitment to God and ministry in Mexico. He declared that he wants to live in a place of total dependance on God. This place of total dependance on God is fertile ground for miracles and for passion for ministry. I watched him love on a young peddler boy selling gum. How happy he was when we gave him food and brought all his gum. May God put us in the place of total dependance so we keep the fire of passion burning for ministry. Mondays are a day for rest, relaxation and catching-up on things I can't get to during the rest of the week. One of things that had been waiting for me was a mound of bark mulch. Every year this tedious chore takes a few days to complete. I didn't have the ambition or the strength to move the mulch but my family had become tired off bumping into the mound as they turned cars around in the driveway. So, last evening I arose from my relaxation recliner and moved the mulch. Today it was so easy to turn around in our driveway without the mulch pile. I am glad I pushed myself, (actually my wife was the biggest pusher), and moved the mulch. Are there mulch piles in your life that you keep bumping into in the driveway of your life? Get up from your relaxation recliner and move the mulch. God is a big mulch mover! In the midst of a stressed-out world, we need comedians to help us laugh. I have the privilege of knowing a few "good, clean comedians." May God help you to learn to laugh more!

"God Appointments"

Today, I experienced a few "God Appointments." The prayer breakfast was ordinary in its program but extraordinary in two "God Appointments." Over the years of serving Jesus, I have made a personal observation that God sets up appointments that help fulfill destiny in our lives. If we trust Him with all our heart and lean not to our own understanding, He will direct our paths or ways. So many believers worry over whether or not they are in God's will and don't realize that God desires to makes it easy for us to go where He is leading and working. Following the Lord does require patience and faith which is often lacking in our busy, sceptical church world. Yesterday, I returned

to a place of necessity - the gym. After a few weeks off, I realized that the gym had changed in

my absence. For four years, Marie and I have been using certain machines for our exercise routines. However, when we arrived at the gym the machines were gone. So, we began a

new routine on machines we had never used before. These new machines worked muscles I

didn't even know existed. Using the old machines had resulted in a plateauing of our muscles.
Too often in God's kingdom we are content to use the same old methods to reach the lost and
to advance the kingdom. May God remove the old machines and surprise us with new machines to exercise our spiritual muscles to overcome any plateaus in our churches or in our lives. Bring on sore spiritual muscles!

The Next Move

My heart is full of the prophetic promises of God. I am strongly sensing that God desires to take His presence and power outside the walls of the church. The New Testament is full of power encounters that happened outside the walls of organized church gatherings. Divine appointments are in the plan of God for the lost and dying. May the bride of Christ hear the voice of the Spirit calling her from the bridal dressing chambers to those who long to join the procession of the bride. When the life and healing of Jesus flows from a believer into a lost and dying person, the rewards are joy, more power and blessing from God. May the next move of God's Spirit be in the streets where the broken and hurting are struggling to survive.

Back to Reality

The day after Easter, my wife and I celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary with a trip to Hawaii. The beauty of this earthly paradise is beyond human words of description. All the months of planning, anticipation and excitement were realized in this dream vacation. We followed-up this week in Hawaii with a week in LA at the Azusa Street Centennial. After 2 weeks of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual rest and refreshment, it is time to get back to reality. Reality is where humanity spends the majority of the calendar year. Reality is crowded with pain, suffering, sin and death. Reality may not be a paradise-like dream vacation but it is where the body of Christ serves without fanfare and hype. Let us roll up our sleeves and face reality with the love, power and joy of Jesus Christ.

Entertained by God's Creation

Recently, Marie and I had the opportunity to be entertained by a beautiful sunset over the ocean. The star of the evening was the setting sun that cast a myriad of colors on the crystal, clear, blue ocean. God has His own floor show every evening. It is easy to miss the beauty of a sunrise, a sunset, a blooming flower, a majestic mountain, a bubbling brook or anything else that God has created. Yet man is God's greatest creation and too often we take one another for granted just like we overlook the beauty of God's creation of the heavens and the earth. Take time today to thank God for everything and everyone that He has created. Kick back today and be entertained by the God's creation. Laugh, smile and most of all don't miss the little things.

Unexpected Pain

There is nothing like unexpected pain, (ouch). The other day, I was in the dentist office and the dental assistant said that placing the crown on my back tooth wouldn't hurt since all the main work was done when the temporary crown was placed on my tooth. She was very, very, wrong. After I landed back on the dentist chair, it was unanimously decided by all that novocain would be administered. After several shots of this wonderful drug that makes your face feel like rubber, the crown was applied only to break as I bit down on a piece of cotton attempting to seal the crown on my tooth. I was then informed that the crown would be cut off and a new crown would be put on my aching tooth. Unlike me in the dentist cahir, Jesus knew the pain was coming. It was not unexpected but prophesied: Isa 53:4-5 - "Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed." (NKJV) The good news is there will never be a need for another cross and His crown is secure and unbroken.

A Great Time to Share the Good News

I love this time of the year. Over the years of pastoring, I have witnessed hungry young people become saved, receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit, move out in the gifts of the Spirit and receive the call of ministry. If the enemy can rob the next generation of hunger than the perpetuation of Pentecost will end. Having lived a life outside of God as a teen, I realize the emptiness that comes from trying to satisfy the longing of the inner man with the "fig leaves" of this world. Let us not reach out to the world but reach up to the Lord.

Joel 2:28 - "And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions." Last summer, we stopped by a huge cross in Effingham, Illinois and our group all stood in the shadow of the cross. The shadow of this huge cross came down on us and also reached out to a field next to the cross. How significant, the long shadow of the cross of Jesus stills comes down on the harvest. Stay in the shadow of the cross this Easter season and reach into the harvest field.

http://www.thecross-photo.com/The_Cross_in_Effingham_Illinois.htm
